Natural Black Woman campaign celebrates afro textured hair
An editorial campaign dedicated to natural, afro-textured hair begins on People with Voices on July 18. The campaign has been launched in response to a growing body of women in the UK who are embracing their afro hair in its natural condition and resisting chemical straighteners and extensions, more associated with European standards of beauty.
Every day between 18-24 July the website will feature an article dedicated to the campaign, including features, book reviews and hair stories about women’s journey’s with their natural tresses.
There is also an opportunity to win a copy of Grow It, by Chicoro; an informative book about managing and growing afro-textured hair. To be in with a chance of winning simply ‘LIKE’ the People with Voices Facebook Page. A winner will be randomly selected and notified on Friday July 22.
Commenting on the campaign, Editor Deborah Gabriel said: “We always aim to offer perspectives on our website that are sometimes missing from the mainstream media. There has been little coverage of the natural hair movement in the UK but we hope our campaign will inform, educate and inspire black women to embrace their natural beauty.”
